New Delhi: India's second largest carrier Jet Airways on Tuesday slashed the prices of its domestic air ticket by upto 50 percent.

As per media reports, Jet has announced "India's biggest airticket sale" of 20 lakh seats at Rs 2250.

The sale will be applicable for travel upto anytime till December 31 this year. This discounted scheme can be availed by passengers who book tickets before February 24.

Following suit, Indigo airlines has also slashed prices of its ticket between 30 and 40 percent. Although the low-frill airline has made nothing official regarding the validity of the scheme.

The big announcement comes weeks after low-cost airlines Spicejet announced airfares at throw-away prices.

Similar schemes have been launched in the recent past by some airlines to boost their passenger loads. After receiving a good response to a similar promotional offer for its domestic air tickets in November last, Air India had launched a special all-inclusive promotional return fare scheme on its international flights this December.
