Gujarat made maximum progress in fighting malnutrition: Narendra Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said that a Comptroller and General (CAG) report has stated that Gujarat made maximum progress in fighting malnutrition in the last five years.
"According to a CAG report, Gujarat has made maximum progress in fighting malnutrition in the last five years," Modi said while conferring awards to anganwadi workers and women sportspersons at a function here.
He said that while India on an average made 8 per cent progress in the last five years in tackling the menace of malnutrition, which Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had termed it a shame on our country, Gujarat made 32 per cent progress.
"This shows that we have followed the right path and the government's efforts are yielding results," he added.
Modi gave away Rs 37.24 lakh as prize money to 23 women of whom seven were sportpersons, who won medals in international competitions.

Wharton's withdrawal of Narendra Modi's invitation wrong: Arvind Kejriwal....

"Troubled" and "dismayed" at Wharton University withdrawing its invitation to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the varsity's decision to change its mind "under pressure" was "very wrong".
Addressing through video-conferencing at the Wharton India Economic Forum, Kejriwal, who began his indefinite fast against "inflated" power and water bills today, said he was "dismayed" at the decision.
"I am not a supporter of Mr Modi. In fact, I don't agree with him on many things and have publicly opposed him on many occasions. However, I would like to put on record my dismay at the cancellation of his invitation to speak at this forum," he said
Kejriwal said to issue an invitation and then cancel it under pressure "is not right. It is very wrong. It is unbecoming of an institution carrying the respected Wharton name".
He also said those who refuse to listen to people they do not agree with, they lose an opportunity to learn and grow and the refusal to let him speak goes against the very principles of free speech.
Touching upon other issues, he said there was a need for a honest government to monitor private sector.
"The argument that since the government is corrupt, so lets privatise everything, this argument hasn't worked. We can no longer sidestep the issue of governance," he said.
"All the policies in the last twenty years were meant to favour big business. In most cases, the policies were directed towards killing small business to favour certain big business houses," he said.
During the interactive session, he said there is no national party in the country with which AAP can join hands. "May be on issues, we can support. Issue based we can support," he said.
He also sought to find fault with the "dynastic politics" in the country saying a few families are controlling the country.
Laws will be enacted to curb this if AAP gets power, he said.

Rajinikanth disturbed over verdict on Sanjay Dutt....

Sanjay Dutt and Rajinikanth
Reacting to the Supreme Court verdict on actor Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, superstar Rajinikanth Friday said he is "disturbed" and will pray to god on his behalf.

"I was very disturbed when I heard about my friend and a lovely person Sanjay Dutt's verdict. The current support and appeal for his pardon is giving me hope. I pray to god that he gets remedy," Rajinikanth said in a statement.

Sanjay and Rajinikanth recently met when the former was in the city for the shooting of his upcoming film "Policegiri".

On Thursday, the Supreme Court upheld Sanjay's conviction under the Arms Act for illegally possessing weapons, and sent him to five years' imprisonment.

The 53-year-old has already spent 18 months in jail. He was convicted by the TADA court for illegal possession of a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle.

Following the verdict, several members of the film fraternity expressed their sadness over the news. Justice Katju Thursday appealed to Maharashtra Governor K. Sankarnarayanan to pardon the actor.

Can Narendra Modi save the BJP in Karnataka?...

Narendra ModiScarred by scandal after scandal, Karnataka's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is roping in Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to help it retain power even though he did not make much of an impact the last time he campaigned in the state.

Flush with another victory in Gujarat and hailed as the future prime minister by a section of the BJP, Modi faces a severe test of his ability to woo Karnataka voters as the party is in a mess in the state.

The election to the 225-member assembly that includes one nominated member is on May 5. Though the BJP and other parties have launched the campaign already, it will pick up momentum only after nominations close April 17.

Vote count is on May 8.

The Karnataka BJP has not yet spelt out how extensively it will make Modi tour the state to seek votes for it in the May 5 elections.

In the last assembly poll in 2008 when BJP managed to come to power for the first time in the southern state, Modi had toured a very few places but the party did not sweep those areas.

This time around, Modi and the BJP in Karnataka are in sharply contrasting positions - he seems to be on the ascendancy while the party in the state is on a downhill journey.

Modi cannot even sell his much-touted 'Gujarat model of development' in Karnataka as almost every BJP leader in the state has been mouthing it while people witnessed unending corruption scandals, dissidence and change of chief ministers.

Playing on the 'Hindu Hruday Samrat' (darling of Hindus as Modi is described by his admirers) sentiment can also boomerang on the BJP as the party has been taught a bitter lesson because of excesses by rightwing Hindu activists in its stronghold coastal areas. The BJP was routed in these areas in the recent municipal polls.

This leaves Modi and the BJP to talk about Congress corruption, a touchy subject indeed for the party in Karnataka as its first chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was forced out of office over mining bribery charges and is fighting over a dozen cases of graft.

While the party's third chief minister in the state Jagadish Shettar enjoys a clean image, he is saddled with several ministers, including two deputy chief ministers, K.S. Eshwarappa and R. Ashoka, fighting corruption and cases of illegal land deals.

Eshwarappa was also state unit president till March 21.

Other issues like Congress practising vote-bank politics and its inability to curb terrorism have been flogged so often by BJP that they no longer impress the voters.

Besides lack of issues on which Modi can try to sway Karnataka voters, the Gujarat chief minister also has to effectively blunt Yeddyurappa's relentless campaign against his former party.

That seems easier said than done as Yeddyurappa, who quit the BJP in November and is heading the Karnataka Janata Party, has been repeating almost daily that he "is a victim of conspiracy by a section of state and central BJP leaders".

Against such an all-round bleak backdrop, Modi's election campaign in the state, whether short or extensive, may end up as a huge hype with all the limelight on him and little benefit for the beleaguered party.

Congress MLA apologizes for remark on Narendra Modi

AHMEDABAD: The discussion over increase in the number of lions led to uproar in the House whenManavadar MLA JawaharChavda made direct comments on chief minister NarendraModi.

During a discussion on Talala MLA Jasu Barad's question, Chavda made comments on the role played by Modi in increasing the number of the wild cats at the sanctuary. This was enough for the BJP ministers and MLAs to create an uproar demanding the apology from Chavda.

Assembly speaker Vaju Vala too was angry at the MLA. For 10 minutes, the proceeding of the House were stalled by sloganeering and shouting by BJP members.

Vala ordered removal of those words from the record of the assembly. State's finance minister Nitin Patel said, "Such remarks are not acceptable. It is derogatory for the chief minister of this state and member should apologies for it."

Expressing his displeasure towards Chavda, Vala, "The way those words were spoken, it was completely unacceptable and undignified for this House. There is no such rule but to maintain an honourable tradition and to upheld the decency of the assembly, a member should express regrets for his remarks." Chavda later apologized to the House.

Whatever target Aussies set will be chased: Vijay....

Whatever target Aussies set will be chased: Vijay
New Delhi: Opener Murali Vijay, on Saturday, said that the ongoing fourth Test match against Australia is "evenly poised and can go either way" but expressed confidence of chasing down any target set by the opponents.

"It is interesting. The match is evenly poised right now. It can go either way. It will be crucial as to how many runs the tail-enders score," Vijay, who made 57 in India`s day end score of 266 for eight on Saturday, said.

Asked what will be an achievable fourth innings target, Vijay replied, "Whatever target they set will be chased. No two ways about it."

Vijay criticised the track in a veiled manner, stating that it was difficult to judge the speed of the deliveries.

"The wicket is getting slower and lower. The cracks are getting wider and it is really difficult to judge the speed of the deliveries," he said.

The opener, however, revealed that the pitch prepared by Venkat Sundaram is certainly not conducive for good batting.

"It`s a wicket where scoring runs is extremely difficult. However, it`s not that difficult to stay on the wicket. We did bat well, but in patches. I could have batted a little longer but got out at the wrong time."

His stop-gap opening partner Cheteshwar Pujara got a nasty hit on a finger of his right hand and Vijay said that the physio was working on him.

"It`s swollen a bit and the physio is working on him."

He, meanwhile, didn`t wish to divulge the details of the heated exchange between Ravindra Jadeja and David Warner.

"It`s part and parcel of the game. Whatever happened on the field can`t be told outside," he replied with a smile.

Were the Aussies a bit more aggressive than they have been in this series so far, Vijay said, "It`s nothing new. They were aggressive throughout the tournament (series)."

Having scored a couple of centuries and a half century since his comeback in the Test team, Vijay agreed that it has been a good series for him so far.

"It`s been a good tournament for me so far and I am happy to contribute to the team`s cause," he concluded.

Even 100 runs would be difficult to chase on Kotla track: Lyon....

Even 100 runs would be difficult to chase on Kotla track: Lyon
New Delhi: As batting is becoming extremely difficult on a fast-wearing pitch, Australia spinner Nathan Lyon believes they stand a good chance to sign off the tour with a win since it will be difficult for India to chase even a small target of 100 runs.

Lyon got a lot of purchase from the Feroz Shah Kotla track, offering vicious turn and uneven bounce, and scalped five Indian batsmen to bring Australia back in the match.

"We need to bat well tomorrow. Even a 100-run target would be difficult to chase on this track. The wicket is going up and down. We need to bat well and hopefully get a lead of 150-200 runs. It will help us to put the Indians under some pressure," Lyon told reporters after second day`s play.

The Australian bowlers, led by Lyon (5/94), troubled the Indian batsmen as the hosts finished the day two at 266 for eight in the fourth and final cricket Test.

Such was the changing nature of the pitch that despite a century-plus opening stand between Cheteshwar Pujara (52) and Murali Vijay (57), India lost six wickets in a heap in the post-tea session.

Lyon extracted sharp turn and bounce to get rid of India`s top and middle order players -- Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar debutant Ajinkya Rahane.

Asked about his prized scalp, Lyon said each and every wicket was special to him.

"All five wickets were special to me. Every wicket was special to me. Playing against the likes of Tendulkar and Kohli, you always strive to get their wickets. I am quite happy with each one of them. I really enjoyed myself out there. I felt confident and put my team in the contest. We will try to turn things around here in Delhi," he said.Lyon did not read too much in the on-field spat between Ravindra Jadeja and David Warner.

"What happens on the field, stays on the field. Australia play hard cricket and we play very hard today. The conditions are tough out there and we did pretty well today. We pushed ourselves to the limits and that’s why we played our best cricket. It was missing in the last three Tests," he said.

Talking about his own bowling, Lyon said stand-in captain Shane Watson marshalled his men smartly.

"I love bowling in long spells which I did today. As far as my performance is concerned, Shane told us to get in to the contest, that's one thing which worked for all of us. His advice helped me in getting five wickets. Also, we were bowling in partnerships, building pressure on the opposition, that's one thing which we failed to do in the last three Tests," he said.

"Shane is a great player and a great leader. Everyone has got so much respect for him. I thought he did pretty well today as a captain, motivating all of us," he added.

The match is evenly poised: Murali Vijay....

The match is evenly poised: Murali Vijay
New Delhi: India`s opening batsman Murali Vijay said on Saturday that the fourth Test against Australia was evenly poised after the second day`s play at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

"The match is evenly poised at the moment. It will be interesting to see what happens," said Vijay as India finished the day with a slim lead of four runs.

India reached 266 for eight in the first innings at stumps after bowling out Australia for 262 runs within the first hour of the second day.
Vijay, who top scored with 57, said the Kotla wicket was difficult to bat on and it will only get tougher as the match continues.

"The wicket will get slower and lower and the cracks are also opening up. It is a difficult pitch to bat on. Actually it is difficult to score runs on this pitch. You can stay in there but difficult to keep the scoreboard ticking," he said.

Asked how he placed his innings on a crumbling track, Vijay said, "We did well in patches. I batted well and could have stayed on for a longer period but unfortunately got out at the wrong time."

Vijay said India have to chase down any target set by Australia for a historic 4-0 whitewash of the visitors.

"See whatever target they set us we have to chase it down. There are no two ways about it," he said.

India, Australia indulge in sledging at Kotla....

New Delhi: Sparks flew thick and fast between Ravindra Jadeja and David Warner as the two players found themselves involved in an ugly spat during the second day`s play of the fourth and final Test here on Saturday.
India, Australia indulge in sledging at Kotla
It all started when Aussie pacer James Pattinson had a word with Jadeja, something that the India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni did not like.

When Pattinson returned to bowl, Dhoni was warned by the umpire for running on the pitch.

While a smiling Dhoni tried to settle the matter at his end, Warner, positioned at mid-on, looked the most animated and mumbled some profane words. Jadeja, at the non-striker`s end, retorted by showing the handle of his bat.

This further provoked the Australian opener and he complained to the umpire. The on-field umpires then called upon Jadeja and had a word with him.

Both Dhoni and Australia`s stand-in skipper Shane Watson were called in to soothe the fraying nerves but that did not seem to have deterred Warner and Jadeja from having another round of sledging. They once again exchanged expletives before heading to their respective ends.

As Watson was walking past the India skipper after settling the matter, he himself got engaged in a war of words with Dhoni.

In the same over, after the verbal spat, the third ball was played by Dhoni towards square-leg and Siddle, who was stationed there, flung the ball towards the India skipper. The ball narrowly missed Dhoni and he reacted angrily.

After that Pattinson had a huge leg before appeal against Jadeja turned down by the umpire. The shout seemed like a never-ending one but umpire Aleem Dar rightly ruled in favour of the batsman as the yorker was going down the leg.

After the over, drinks break was taken, which saw both on-field umpires having a long chat with Dhoni and Jadeja and later, with the Australian skipper.

Delhi Test, Day 2: India take slender lead despite Lyon`s five wicket haul

Delhi Test, Day 2: India take slender lead despite Lyon`s five wicket haul
New Delhi: Nathan Lyon scalped five wickets as Indian batsmen were tested for the first time in the series on a crumbling track but still managed to take a slender four-run first-innings lead in the fourth and final cricket Test against Australia here on Saturday.

Scorecard» Highlights» As it happened»

At stumps after an intriguing second day`s play, India struggled their way to 266 for eight despite a century-plus opening stand between Cheteshwar Pujara (52) and Murali Vijay (57) after the visitors had scored 262 in their first innings.

The bulk of the damage was done in the post-tea session when India lost six wickets as the Australian bowlers looked menacing for the first time.

If India manage a lead of even 50 runs, it could turn out to be a decisive one considering Australia`s lack of firepower to counter the Indian spinners.

Curator Venkat Sundaram designed the pitch at the Feroz Shah Kotla keeping in mind the requirements of the Indian team, but it boomeranged on the hosts instead, as Lyon (5/94) extracted sharp turn and bounce to get rid of top-order players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Pujara and debutant Ajinkya Rahane.

Ravindra Jadeja survived a hostile spell from James Pattinson and faced constant sledging from the close-in fielders as he fought his way to a fighting 43 before getting a questionable leg before decision off Glenn Maxwell.

Pattinson and Peter Siddle also got certain deliveries to rear up awkwardly from the good length spot, which caused trouble for the batsmen.

Having gone into tea at a relatively comfortable 114 for two, the trouble started in the final session with an inspired spell of fast bowling from Siddle.

A nasty bouncer accounted for Vijay as he lobbed a simple catch to wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.

A second bouncer by the bowler softened up debutant Rahane (7), who got hit on the helmet and didn`t recover from the psychological blow. Lyon took advantage of the situation as he got one to pitch on the rough as Rahane presented a tame catch to the backward short-leg fielder.

Operating from the Delhi Gate End, Lyon used the deteriorating pitch conditions to good effect, using the rough created outside the leg-stump well. Also he got awkward bounce that created problems for the Indian batsmen who time and again got beaten while trying to play for the turn.

Even Tendulkar (32) found it difficult to hit him. Having survived a confident leg before appeal in the post-lunch session, the veteran did hit five boundaries with three lovely ones of Siddle. But the offie pushed one quicker through the air and it hurried off the surface to find the batsman plumb in-front.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit a few boundaries en route to his 24 but he committed early into a slow bouncer from Pattinson to give a simple catch to mid-wicket.

Earlier, the makeshift opening stand of Pujara and Vijay turned out to be a productive one as it yielded 108 runs in 25 overs with both players helping themselves to contrasting half-centuries.

While Pujara`s 76-ball 52, with five boundaries, was a busy innings, Vijay, who has been in fine form since the Hyderabad Test match, contributed a useful 57 off 123 balls and hit eight fours.

However, the Tamil Nadu opener was subdued after the completion of his 50 as his next seven runs came off 38 deliveries.

At the onset, Pujara played a majestic backfoot cover drive off Pattinson after Vijay opened his account with a streaky boundary past the slip cordon.

Pattinson drifted one onto his pads and he promptly got his second boundary. Then came the best shot of the morning session as he hit left-arm pacer Mitchell Johnson for a straight drive.

The three boundaries gave Pujara confidence to get off the blocks. Pujara's stroke-making must have inspired Vijay as he elegantly played pacer Pattinson through the wide mid-on area.

The first five overs of the innings produced 34 runs and it looked as if Vijay and Pujara were already in the Indian Premier League mode, which is scheduled to start in 10 days' time from now.

The 50-run partnership was completed in the 10th over. Pujara was finally dismissed after completing a well deserved half-century. Facing a Lyon delivery, Pujara played for the turn, but the ball went straight to hit the off-stump. Pujara faced 76 balls and hit five boundaries in the process.

Kohli also didn't stay long as Lyon trapped him plumb-in-front for one.

Around 1:25 pm, Tendulkar walked out amid standing ovation from the 20,000 odd weekend crowd, and got off the mark off the 10th delivery that he faced.

In the morning, Australia finished their first innings on 262, adding 31 runs to their overnight total of 231 for eight.

Siddle completed his maiden Test fifty but was done in by a straighter one from Ashwin who completed his fourth five-wicket haul in the series. Siddle scored 51 off 136 balls with four boundaries. Ashwin finished with figures of five for 57 in 34 overs.

The Australian innings lasted a shade over 14 overs as Pattinson's (30) dogged resistance ended with Pragyan Ojha getting his 100th Test wicket. Ojha completed the feat in his 22nd Test and is the third fastest to reach the milestone after Erapalli Prasanna and Anil Kumble.

`Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Again` to be released as per pre-determined schedule`

`Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Again` to be released as per pre-determined schedule`Mumbai: Actor Tusshar Kapoor has denied reports of "unhealthy competition" between his sister Ekta Kapoor and fellow producers over the release date of the second instalment of `Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai` and `Chennai Express` in single screen theatres.

Clearing the air on the reports that Ekta has decided to club `Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Again` (OUATIM 2) with her five other films, Tusshar said there was no conflict of interest with other producers.

Both `OUATIM 2` and UTV Motion Pictures``Chennai Express` are likely to be released on Eid this year.

"I guess we had announced the release of `OUATIM 2` long ago. We are sticking to our old strategy. No one is looking to outdo another. There is no unhealthy competition. I think the release date was announced earlier", Tusshar told reporters here on behalf of his elder sister Ekta.

According to media reports, UTV Motion Pictures set a precondition of dedicating four shows in a day to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer `Chennai Express` if they want to buy Ajay Devgn`s `Himmatwala`.

"As a brother, I am giving an assurance that Ekta has not clubbed `OUATIM 2` with rest of our five releases this year", Tusshar said.

The five films are `Ek Thi Dayan`, `Lootera`, `Shootout At Wadala`, `Ragini MMS 2` and `Shaadi Ke Side Effects`.

Dismissing reports that Ekta`s move to club releases of these films with `OUATIM 2` was a counter to UTV, Tusshar said Bollywood has the precedent when two big films were released on the same date.

"We have seen two films released on the same date and they worked individually at the box office. This is something we have witnessed in the past, like during Diwali", he said.

Yash Raj Films started the trend last year with `Ek Tha Tiger`, by reportedly asking the theatres that they can only screen `Ek Tha Tiger` if they agree to exclusively screen the banner`s next film on Diwali.

The YRF clashed with Ajay Devgn last year when the latter refused to change the release date of his `Son of Sardaar`, from November 13, the day Shahrukh`s `Jab Tak Hai Jaan` was released across the country.

Blackbuck case: Court frames fresh charges against Saif Ali Khan, three others

Blackbuck case: Court frames fresh charges against Saif Ali Khan, three others
Delhi: A court in Jodhpur has framed fresh charges on Saturday against actors Tabu, Neelam, Saif Ali Khan and Sonali Bendre in connection with a blackbuck poaching case.

The five actors were first charged with poaching of blackbucks back in 1998.

14 years back, during the shoot of ‘Hum Saath Saath Hai’, the five actors had allegedly shot blackbucks in a village near Jodhpur. A case had been filed consequently. Under the Wildlife Protection Act, the blackbuck is a protected animal and hunting or poaching of the same is a punishable offence under the Indian law.

While Salman Khan had been expected to reach Jodhpur today, the actor wasn't able to do so. The other actors were present for the hearing. Salman is in the US for the treatment of a rare neurological disorder and was supposed to fly to the country to attend the hearing today.

The Rajasthan High Court had revised the charges against these stars in December 2012, charging Khan with Section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act and others including a local accused Dushyant Singh with Section 51/52 of Wildlife Protection Act and Section 149 of IPC.The revised charges have been framed against Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre. If proven, the actors might be sentenced to six years' imprisonment. Revised charges on Salman Khan are yet to be read out. The next hearing in the blackbuck poaching case has now been scheduled for April 27

China on course to become world's largest economy by 2016: OECD

Beijing: China is on course to become the world's largest economy "around 2016", a survey by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has forecast.

"From a long-range perspective, China has now overtaken the Euro area and is on course to become the world's largest economy around 2016, after allowing for price differences," the Paris-based group said in its survey of China.

Living standards will continue to improve fast, provided reforms are implemented, most of which feature in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), state-run Xinhua news agency quoted the survey report.

With USD 8.3 trillion, China is the second largest economy. It stands next only to United States which has USD 15.7 trillion strong economy.

The OECD report predicted China to grow at 8.5 percent this year from last year's 7.5 percent saying that the economy is set to regain momentum.

"The gradual pick-up in activity provides a strong background for the ambitious reforms China needs to put in place to continue on the road to prosperity," OECD Secretary- General Angel Gurria said.

China was well placed to enjoy a fourth decade of rapid catch-up and improving living standards, notwithstanding various risks, the OECD said.

The new economic survey of China examines three closely interlinked sets of issues: urbanisation, relations between central and local governments and the environment.

To sustain vigorous and socially inclusive growth over the longer run, "renewed reform momentum is required with respect to financial sector liberalisation, open competition in markets for goods and services, education, research and innovation, all are as highlighted in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15)," the OECD said.

New Delhi: Micromax Canvas 2 A110 took the world by storm due to its chunk of hardware and an impressive price tag. The company behind the widely popular handset recently unveiled the successor to the Canvas 2 — the A116 Canvas HD smartphone.

The Canvas HD was unveiled with much fanfare in February and was expected to be available in the markets soon. But before it could hit the shelves it went out of stock.

According to sources, the smartphone has been delayed due certain procedural issues.

To add insult to injury, the price of the upcoming phone has been increased from Rs 13,999 to Rs 14,999. Retail partner Snapdeal.com has stated in its statement that the increase in cost is the result of the changes in custom duty.

The company, however, indicated that before the end of March 2013 customers looking to own the Canvas HD can buy it from anywhere in the country from the open retail market.

Snapdeal.com has also apologised for the delay and stated that customers who have pre-booked the handset will get it for the original price which was Rs. 13,999.

cheaper Apple iPhone 5 plastic body to be launched in June-July...

London: A cheaper, plastic bodied iPhone costing roughly half the price of the standard Apple smartphone is set to be launched this summer, according to analysts.

Jefferies & Company analyst Peter Misek said that production of that cheaper iPhone is likely to start in June.

Separately, Amit Daryanani or RBC Capital Markets told investors that Apple plans to launch the cheaper phone as well as the iPhone 5S in June-July this year, the Telegraph reports.

Earlier this month it was claimed that the budget version would cost roughly 330 dollars, priced in order to appeal to young, middle class consumers in countries like China and India.

Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge had claimed earlier that "reliable sources" told him the new device will have a retina display and feature Apple's new Lightning connector for charging and syncing.

According to the paper, Horwitz did agree that Apple would release an upgraded iPhone 5S, with an improved rear camera, perhaps in July.

'Sanjay Dutt did more than just keep a gun for self-protection in 1993'

The masterminds of the 1993 bomb blasts in Bombay had a twin agenda. One was to attack the city through a series of explosions, and the other was to arm members of their community well enough to hold their own in communal clashes the blasts were expected to trigger.
Sanjay Dutt
For this, assault rifles, pistols and hand grenades were brought from Pakistan and several young men were also taken to Pakistan and given arms training, police officers linked to the investigation recalled after this week's Supreme Court verdict in the 20-year-old case.
The arms landed at two places in Raigad district and one in Gujarat. The Gujarat consignment was hidden in the cavity of a vehicle and brought to Mumbai by road, driven by Abu Salem, who went on to become a prominent gangster.
Salem and his accomplices needed a quiet place to open the welded cavity and remove the arsenal. The office of Magnum Productions, owned by Hanif Kadawala and Sameer Hingora, on Linking Road in Bandra, was chosen. Dawood Ibrahim's brother Anees called Hingora and Kadawala and told them to allow Salem to use their compound.
The partners, however, were involved in a dispute with their landlord and did not want to risk catching his attention and suggested using actor Sanjay Dutt's house instead.
Dutt was contacted and he agreed. Hingora went with Salem after the latter feared he would not be allowed inside by the guards, and the vehicle was taken to Dutt's garage.
"The Mumbai Police had provided some guards for Sunil and Sanjay Dutt in light of the 1992-93 riots, and the garage was in direct line of sight from where they were stationed. Dutt asked them to move over to another gate, after which the cavity in the vehicle was opened and the arsenal extracted," said one officer.
