Didn't change my game despite criticism......

MS Dhoni has been in the firing line, especially after losing the Test series to England at home but he reacted by ignoring all the criticism.

The Indian captain shut all his critics up with a sensational double hundred against Australia in the opening Test in Chennai. His 224 ensured India ended up with a 192-run lead, which buried the Aussies as they collapsed to an eight-wicket defeat.

"What really matters is the job I'm trying to do. The best thing I've done so far is to not watch the news or read the newspapers, so that has really helped, frankly," Dhoni said at the post-match press conference.

"It's not that I do not read newspapers, it's just that the third page from the back is always the sports page, so you try to get rid of that. Otherwise you don't get to know what's happening in India," said Dhoni.

Despite all the criticism, Dhoni held firm and did not change his methods in the middle, including his batting style.

"Nothing has changed. Whatever is your specialty remains your specialty," he said.

Government ducks passenger fare hike in Railway Budget.....

New Delhi: An eye on general elections next year, Pawan Kumar Bansal's Rail Budget today did not raise passenger fares today, but he introduced a nearly six per cent hike in freight traffic rates and additional charges on ticketing services and some passenger tickets, mostly for wealthier passengers.

The BJP and the Left have slammed it as a "populist election budget" that has "hidden costs"; Mayawati, whose support holds up the Manmohan Singh government, said she was dismayed that, "Fare has been hiked through the back door."

The increase in supplementary charges for superfast trains, like Rajdhanis and Shatabdis, and charges on reservations and cancellations will mean a fare increase of between Rs. 5 and Rs. 25 for all classes in superfast trains.

The hike in freight tariff and the hike in supplementary charges are expected to generate additional revenue of Rs. 4,683 crore for the Railways in the next fiscal year. The Railway Minster, presenting his maiden Railway Budget and the first by a Congressman in 17 years, emphasised that the Railways is staring at losses of Rs. 24,000 crore this year.

In a speech made lively by poetry and verse, the minister put forth flat statistics to say that unless the Railways cuts losses and begins to make money, it cannot provide best value to customers and play its part in the nation's growth effectively. "Indian Railways must remain financially sustainable. The number of passenger trains has increased from 8,000 in 2001 to over 12,000 in 2012, yet losses continue to mount," Mr Bansal said, adding that scarcity of resources and a thin spread of funds continued to be a problem.

Mr Bansal said he had to raise Rs. 95,000 crore in the next four years of the 12th Five-Year Plan, which called for setting higher targets for expanding the rail network.

Passenger fares were raised by 21 per cent last month, but a significant part of the expected additional revenue of about Rs. 6,000 crore was wiped out by the increase in the price of diesel. Mr Bansal said the fuel surcharge he was imposing on freight was aimed at meeting the increased fuel bill. The Railways would absorb the Rs.850-crore loss from no passenger fare hike, he said. He also announced 67 new express and 26 passenger trains.

Global brokerage Nomura has said that while linking freight to fuel costs is the right move, subsidized passenger fares account for the bulk of rail losses and until that is addressed, the financial position of the Railways is unlikely to turn around quickly.

The Rail Budget is closely watched, both by the millions of Indians who use it every day and see cheap rail travel as a right, and by economists looking to see how far the government will be willing to go to tackle politically sensitive reforms.

India Inc's reactions ranged from positive to disappointment. "We expected the Budget to be more constructive, but I think the minister was under restrictions... there is no major impetus to growth," Ashok Vijay, chief financial officer at Texmaco, the largest wagon maker in the country, said.

However, industry body Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry said it welcomed the Railway Ministry's thrust on safety and fiscal discipline. As part of new safety measures, Mr Bansal today announced that new coaches with anti-climb features will be brought in; over 10,000 level crossings will be eliminated and 17 bridges have been sanctioned for rehabilitation.

To generate additional revenue, Mr Bansal has proposed public private partnerships in building the exclusive railway freight corridors across the country to decongest passenger traffic and improve its transportation services which have been steadily losing ground to roads.

For the stock markets, the Budget was pretty much a non-event. The BSE Sensex slipped below the key 19,000 mark, while the broader Nifty traded below 5,750 amid a huge selloff, but traders attributed the selloff to widespread profit-taking in blue chips ahead of the Union Budget 2013-14 and weak global cues.

MIRCHI-one of the Top 7 grossers in USA

Mirchi has become big blockbuster in USA and has found itself a place in one of the Top 7 grossers in USA

ASHWIN RECORD.........

Yes, he may not be considered better than the other 3.
Yes, he may have taken most of the wickets on rank turners.
Yes, he may have taken many of the wickets against NZ and WI.

But, there is no denying, that Ashwin, after 13 matches, has taken many more wickets than the other 3, out of which 2 are for sure considered to be the Greatest Spinners of All Time...

The question then is, will he be able to perform like this consistently?
However, the answer to that, may only lie in the hands of time...

Till then #MassiveRespect. for Ashwin.

I really pity Dhoni’s critics: Shastri.....

Much of the one on one had to do with India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

You’re a double centurion yourself. What does it take to score a double hundred in Test cricket?

A It tests everything... Your character, skill, technique, stamina... Your ability as a performer at the highest level is put to a massive test.

Some words on Dhoni’s innings (batting on 206) at the Chepauk...

Dhoni’s scripted one of the greatest innings by an Indian... I’d even say his double century will rank among the finest by any captain anywhere... The way he counter-attacked the second new ball, in particular, was superb... To score over 200 runs in less than a day is just fantastic.

Where would you place Dhoni’s innings vis-a-vis other captain’s knocks by Indians?

As I’ve said, among the best anywhere, not just in the Indian context.

What stood out?

Many things, considering India were in trouble when he walked in (196 for four)... It was humid, the wicket wasn’t easy... He read the situation very well and counter-attacked when the second new ball was taken.

Dhoni triggered mayhem, but remained calm himself...

That’s his style.

Will this innings silence Dhoni’s critics?

I really pity Dhoni’s critics, that’s all I’ll say... Dhoni’s in the same bracket as Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. His contribution to Indian cricket has been that awesome. To repeat, Dhoni has done more than what many would do in a lifetime.

Sachin's super sixes.......

Super sixes

Only once had Sachin Tendulkar begun a Test innings with a six: when he crunched Muttiah Muralitharan back over his head and out of the stadium first ball at Nagpur in 1997. On Tuesday, the maestro went one better, wading into Nathan Lyon’s off-spin for two massive strikes over long-on on the first two deliveries. Another hit for maximum would have won the match in style, but that wasn’t to be and it was left to Cheteshwar Pujara to stroke the winning run. Tendulkar though made what is possibly his last Test appearance at Chepauk a memorable one for those who turned up.

India surge into series lead.....

The hosts complete an eight-wicket win over Australia at Chepauk.

Captain Cool: MS Dhoni was declared Man of the Match for his swashbuckling 224 in the first Test.

Scorecard | Dhoni equals Ganguly's record | The easiest job A day to remember
CHENNAI: The formality of last rites was performed as a matter of course on Tuesday morning as India took a one-nil lead in the four-Test series against Australia. The visitors, gasping for life overnight, breathed their last nine overs into the morning and set India a victory target of 50, which was achieved by the home team for the loss of a their openers. No surprises there!

Clarke says India completely 'outplayed' Australia

What was surprising was Sachin Tendulkar – walking out at the fall of Virender Sehwag with 14 needed – clubbing sixes against the unfortunate Nathan Lyon off the first two balls he faced. If the dutiful crowd that had turned up needed anything to sweeten an already saccharine victory, it was the two mega hits from the blade of the master.

It was a grand beginning to the series, the opening match having been enlivened by MS Dhoni’s dizzying double-hundred on the third day and off-spinner R. Ashwin’s 12 wickets at his home ground - all on a crumbling, disintegrating pitch; but India will graciously accept the result after a tumultuous home season the previous year.

Govt withdraws international flying rights from Kingfisher.....

Govt withdraws international flying rights from Kingfisher
New Delhi: The Civil Aviation Ministry has withdrawn all bilateral international flying rights from the grounded Kingfisher Airlines.

The carrier, which has not operated a single flight since October last year, had the rights to fly to eight countries. The airline had 25,000 seats allowed every week internationally.

"Under the said rights, Kingfisher Airlines was allowed to fly to Bangladesh (14 services per week), Hong Kong (14 services per week), Nepal (7 services per week), Singapore (7 services per week), SriLanka (14 services per week + 21 services per week from unlimited 18 destinations), Thailand (21 services per week), UAE Dubai (21 services per week) and UK (7 services per week each from Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore)," said a release from the ministry. "These traffic rights were allocated to Kingfisher Airlines between the year 2008 and 2011," the release added.

Other airlines will now be able to utilize this quota of 25,000 seats that was allocated to Kingfisher.

Under bilateral international agreements, traffic entitlements are made between countries by equally dividing passenger traffic. Sometimes code-share is invited between national airlines of the signatory countries for promoting services.

Traffic rights (international cities that the airline will serve) and capacity (number of flights or seats that can be serviced between the two countries), apart from tariffs, are decided between governments before the agreements are set in place.
Carrying a debt of nearly Rs. 8,000 crore and accumulated loss and liabilities of a similar amount, Kingfisher has been grounded since October 1 last year after its pilots and engineers went on a strike over non-payment of salaries.

The airline, which failed to submit a revival plan to the Director General of Civil Aviation, had its flying licence suspended on December 31.

Priyanka Chopra gears up for her first item song......

Priyanka Chopra is all set to start shooting the first item song of her career. The track that will be a part of Sanjay Gupta's upcoming film Shootout At Wadala will go on the floors from today.

Sources say that PC was so choosy about the song that she heard out as many as 11 tracks before taking a decision. Not only that, she even listened to eight different variations of the same song before giving it a go-ahead.

A source says, "Six months ago, Priyanka was approached by Sanjay for the number. However, she wanted to be sure about the song as it would be her first ever item song. Once the track finalised, eight different variations were made. Finally, one has been selected and recorded."
Priyanka is said to be quite happy about the number that will be choreographed by Ahmed Khan.

The makers of the film state, "It's our first association with Priyanka and we had to ensure that it was the best. We reviewed a number of songs over several weeks before finalising Babli badmaash!"

I'm not a believer in Oscars: Sunny Deol........

National Award winning actor Sunny Deol, who is busy promoting his film I Love New Year, is contented with Indian audience and doesn't feel the need to go to the Oscars.

"What is the need for Indians to go to the Oscars? (Indians ko Oscar jaane ki zaroorat kya hai?). Aren't we happy here? Make the Indian audience happy. We have a population of 130 crore, is it not enough?" Sunny Deol told reporters during the theatrical trailer release of I Love New Year

In his 30 years' acting journey, the 56-year-old bagged two National Awards for Ghayal and Daminiand says they came as a surprise to him.

"Everybody has an individual take on it. I am not a believer of these things (Oscars). I was surprised when I got the National Award. I was like how the hell did I get it?"

Media shy Sunny talked candidly at the event and said: "Everything is manipulated these days. Things are such that we ourselves give the news and read the other day."

Known for his action roles, the actor's I Love New Year is a romantic comedy.

"As an actor I want to do everything. With comedy, it gets gentler... in action, it's much about fighting. My fans should also see the other side of me," he said.
