Tata is rigorously working towards revamping its product lineup in India since the current crop is a tad too old to do any more good to the carmaker’s fortunes. One of the first ‘new’ products was the Safari Storme and the next ones in the lineup are the Nano 800 and the Nano diesel. However, between the Nano and the Indica Vista, Tata is planning to add another small car that will be more premium and decidedly smaller than the Indica eV2.
The car is codenamed Dolphin and will be a tall-boy like the Nano, albeit larger. We believe that the Megapixel Concept that Tata showcased back in 2012 provides an insight into the Dolphin’s design and engineering direction. The Dolphin could actually become the most important small car for Tata in recent times with a new lineup of petrol and diesel engines, a new design direction and host of new features that will make it the most value-for-money offering amongst cars like the Honda Brio, Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10 and the Suzuki Wagon R.
We expect the production-ready Megapixel or Dolphin to make its first public appearance at the 2014 Auto Expo in February 2014.
