What`s a "strategy" and what`s "defensive", questions Dhoni...

New Delhi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni took a dig at his critics who had questioned his captaincy, seeking an answer about what is a "strategy" and what exactly is "defensive".

"You have to answer what`s right and what`s wrong," Dhoni said at the post-match press conference.

"When four fast bowlers play, it`s strategy and when three or four spinners play, it becomes a bad wicket! When a deep point, deep fine leg and deep third man is kept for Virender Sehwag, it`s a strategy but if M S Dhoni uses a deep point or deep square leg for David Warner, it`s a defensive field set," said a sarcastic Dhoni.

He was categorical in stating that the era of playing "aggressive cricket" is gone.

"The kind of cricket we play has entirely changed. You have followed this series, whenever an off-spinner has bowled, we have had a short leg, a backward (short leg) and a silly point. With this we have a deep mid-wicket and a long-on. The era of playing aggressive cricket and to have the mid-on up is gone. You now try to read the mindset of a batsman.

"You don`t want to give easy runs in a bunch. If they take four singles, it`s ok," the skipper explained.

As usual, Dhoni said that the word "revenge" was not in his mind as the word doesn`t go well with the "spirit of cricket".

"Doesn`t matter if it`s 4-0, 2-2, 3-1. I like to keep words like revenge out of the series. Then very next question people ask is spirit of the game. Revenge and spirit of the game, the vocabulary gets too confusing," he said.
