MCA ban on Shah Rukh Khan's entry into Wankhede for IPL stays, say officials.......

MCA ban on Shah Rukh Khan's entry into Wankhede for IPL stays, say officials
Mumbai: Mumbai Cricket Association`s five-year ban imposed on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan last year stands and he will not be able to attend his team`s IPL match against hosts Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 7.

"There is a clause in the agreement we are to sign with Mumbai Indians tomorrow that any person who has been debarred by the association cannot enter our premises. It`s not specific to any single person," MCA Joint Secretary Nitin Dalal told PTI today.

"We had informed everyone concerned, including IPL authorities and team owners, about the ban after the decision had been taken," Dalal added.

The other Joint Secretary, P V Shetty refused to discuss the matter any further and merely said that "the ban stands."

The Bollywood super star was banned for five years from entering MCA premises, including the Wankhede Stadium, by the Association`s Managing Committee, headed by the late Vilasrao Deshmukh, on May 18 last year after he was involved in a skirmish with security staff and officials of the cricket body following KKR`s victory over MI two nights earlier.

Khan, however, denied he had misbehaved and maintained he reacted only after children, including his kids, were "manhandled" by the security staff at the stadium.

However, IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla, had said soon after the MCA decision was announced that a final call on Khan`s ban will be taken by the BCCI.

"State bodies can only recommend, but a final decision has to be taken by the BCCI. When the matter comes to BCCI, the Board will decide (on the ban)," Shukla had told reporters last year.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that security personnel at MCA have been told by the authorities not to allow Khan into the premises during this season`s IPL, commencing on April 3.

Letter seeking pardon for Sanjay Dutt sent to Maha Home Dept........

Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan forwarded expelled Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's letter, seeking pardon for Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, to the state Home Department on March 28, a Raj Bhawan spokesperson said on Sunday.

On March 26, Singh and Jayaprada had met the Governor to seek pardon for Dutt, who already served 18 months, after being sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, he said. Actress-turned politician Jayaprada had said, "He (Dutt) is an innocent person. It is very unfortunate. Knowingly or unknowingly, it has been written in his fate that he has to struggle like this. If you see the background of his family, his father Sunil Dutt was in politics and had a very good name. Perhaps, innocently he has done something".

Significantly, Amar Singh and Jayaprada had met Dutt at his Bandra residence before they met the Governor at Raj Bhawan.

Earlier, several celebrities, including Press Council of India chairman, retired Justice Markandey Katju, as well as actor-turned-politicians Jaya Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha had sought pardon for Dutt.

Katju had sought pardon for Dutt under Article 161 of the Constitution, saying that he had not been found guilty of having played a role in the 1993 blasts and had suffered a lot.

Deepak Bharadwaj's killing: Skoda car driver detained......

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday detained the driver of the grey Skoda car in which the assailants of local BSP leader Deepak Bhardwaj had come and shoot him to death.

Although the police is yet to make any arrests, the detention came four days after the brutal murder of Bharadwaj, the richest candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls with declared assets of over Rs 600 crore, was fired upon from point blank range by three men who fled after the incident. Bharadwaj was gunned down by the trio who entered his farmhouse in Rajokri at 8:55 AM on March 26 morning on the pretext of booking the place for a marriage, Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar had said.

After today’s arrest the investigators believe that the driver will disclose every nitigrity of the case.

Earlier on Wednesday police had recovered from Haryana the car used by the killers of Deepak Bhardwaj from his farmhouse and had detained four men who were suspected to have provided illegal arms to the assailants.

About a dozen people were also questioned in connection with the murder of the 62-year-old politician and police were investigating whether any contract killers from Haryana's Sonepat was involved.

In an another twist to the tale, a senior police official had also confirmed to have grilled Bhardwaj's wife, who had been staying separately, and his sons to ascertain whether there was a property dispute and if he had any "enemies".

Narendra Modi inducted into BJP's Team 2014.....

Narendra Modi inducted into BJP`s Team 2014
New Delhi: After a six-year hiatus, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reinducted Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi into the party's Parliamentary Board.

Modi's selection is seen as a major boost to his prime ministerial ambitions.

Also, the 62-year-old Modi is the only Chief Minister included in the new 76-member team of office bearers. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has been ignored in the team.

Modi comes back to the party's top body after a gap of six years after having been removed from the Board by Singh during his previous tenure as party president, ending speculation over the Chief Minister's future role at the national level in BJP.

Modi, who has been projected by a section within BJP as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate, has also been included in BJP's Central Election Committee, headed by Singh.

Singh's new team has 12 vice presidents, 10 general secretaries, 15 secretaries and seven spokespersons, besides a 12-member Central Parliamentary Board, a 19-member Central Election Committee and a five-member Central Disciplinary Committee.BJP president Rajnath Singh, who met the party's patriarch LK Advani this morning ahead of the major announcement, named former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah, Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi, Ram Lal, JP Nadda, Ananth Kumar, Dharmendra Pradhan, Muralidhar Rao, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Thawarchand Gehlot, Tapir Gao as general secretaries of the party.

Rajnath Singh (president), Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, M Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitely, Narendra Modi, Ananth Kumar, Thawar Chand Gehlot, Ram Lal now comprise BJP Central Parliamentary Board.

Durg MP Saroj Pandey has been made the new president of BJP Mahila Morcha, while Anurag Thakur continues as Yuva Morcha president in the new team.

Prakash Javadekar, Shahnawaz Hussain, Nirmala Sitaraman, Vijay Sonkar Shashtri, Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi, Meenakshi Lekhi and Captain Abhimanyu have been made the party's spokespersons.

Party's senior leader and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha has not found a place in Singh's team.

Among those who have been dropped include Najma Heptulla, Hema Malini and Shanta Kumar as vice presidents and Vasundhara Raje as general secretary.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is BJP's deputy leader in Rajya Sabha, has been dropped as the chief spokesperson of the party.

Poonam Mahajan, the daughter of late party leader Pramod Mahajan, has found a place in Singh's team and has been made a secretary. The new BJP team, which has adequate representation of women, includes Luise Marandi from Jharkhand as secretary.

V Satish and Soudan Singh will be the new joint general secretaries (Organisation), while Shyam Jaju, Bhupendra Yadav, Krishan Das, Anil Jain, Vinod Pandey, Trivendra Rawat, Rameshwar Chaurasiya, Aaarti Mehra, Renu Kushwaha, Sudha Yadav, Sudha Malaiya, Tamil Isai and Vani Tripathi are secretaries.

Sanjay Paswan has been made president of the BJP SC Morcha and Faggan Singh Kulaste president of the ST Morcha, Abdul Rashid will head the Minority Morcha and Om Prakash Dhankar will head the party's Kisan Morcha.

Rajya Sabha MP Piyush Goyal has been retained as Treasurer and OP Kohli as Headquarter Incharge, while former MP Ramkripal Sinha will be Office Secretary of Parliamentary Party and Shanmuknathan as joint office secretary of the Parliamentary Party.

The party's Central Disciplinary Committee has Radha Mohan Singh as president, Jagdish Mukhi as secretary and L Ganesahn, Hari Babu and Shyam Nandan Singh as its members. "After discussion with senior party leaders, this team has been announced. I think it is a perfect and balanced team," BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters.

He said the new team would help the BJP win the next Lok Sabha polls.

Notably, the parliamentary board is the highest decision-making body of the BJP and Modi’s elevation is being viewed as a step to bring him to the forefront keeping in view the upcoming 2014 General Elections.

"The rejig was done by the new party president keeping in mind the General Elections of 2014. The party will announce the prime ministerial candidate when the time comes," BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said.

On stopping short of announcing a prime ministerial candidate, BJP leader Nirmala Sitaraman said: "All groups and regions have been well represented in the new team. I don't think too much need to be read into (the holding back of an announcement of the prime minister candidate)."

"All sections have been adequately represented, according to their capacity, and there is young blood too in the team," she said.

Welcoming Modi's elevation, BJP leader Giriraj Singh said: "It is good news and will infuse more power and strength into the party."

On tainted people like Shah being inducted into key positions, BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said: "People don't come to the BJP from one family; they are inducted on merit. Unless a court verdict comes or the Supreme Court says something, we cannot prohibit him from occupying a position in the party."

Swami Vivekananda an ideal role model for youths: RSS chief...........

Ahmedabad: Swami Vivekananda is a perfect role model for today's youths as his thoughts are still relevant and a guiding force for world, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said here on Sunday.

"His (Vivekanandaji's) thoughts are as useful today as they used to be then. His thoughts throw light on India's development as well as the world," Bhagwat said. He was addressing a concluding session of the two-day national seminar organised by the Bhartiya Vichar March, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

"In today's fast-paced world, one feels like reviewing 150-year-old thoughts of Swmi Vivekananda as they continue to be as relevant as they were then," the RSS chief said.

Bhagwat said even the world acknowledges that thoughts of Swamiji brought about a change in the thought process of the people.

Narendra Modi will pose challenge to his own party: Sibal......

New Delhi: Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal on Sunday charged BJP with buckling under pressure of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi by including him in its top decision making parliamentary board, and said Modi will pose a challenge to his own party.

"The real challenge is Modi's challenge to the BJP. It is Modi who is seeking to take over the party and once Modi takes over the party there will be no BJP, because Modi's brand of politics has nothing to do with ideology," Sibal said.

He said, "This is a big challenge to the BJP and not to anyone else. The fight is between BJP and Modi. Under pressure, they have included him. The coming time will tell whether BJP will have a say or Modi." Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said, "the new team's first test will be the upcoming Karnataka Assembly polls."

On inclusion of Modi's confidant Amit Shah as BJP general secretary, Sibal questioned the Opposition party's claim of morality when it appoints someone facing serious charges against him in court. He said this will lead the party to destruction.

"To make someone who is facing serious charges as general secretary will lead the BJP towards destruction. How will they make people understand that they preach morality but what they do is just the opposite," Sibal said.

The Minister said Shah is involved in very serious charges against him and is undergoing trial and has also been to jail.

"This shows the character of a party which talks about morality and yet appoints a general secretary who is undergoing a trial and facing very serious charges," he said.

Meanwhile, BJP Spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the Gujarat Chief Minister has been there in the party's parliamentary board earlier also and has now been included again due to his gaining popularity.

"Narendra Modi is the senior-most Chief Minister of BJP and has achieved top success in his state. He is the most popular leader in BJP. He has become an icon of non-corrupt good governments," Javadekar said.

“SRK is currently shooting in Wai and has been all praises for Parineeti,” a leading daily quoted a source as saying.

“He’s been asking about the projects she has in hand right now and was also heard discussing about her recent achievements. He’s taking a keen interest in her,” the source added.

Parineeti was recently awarded a Special Mention at the 60th National Film Awards this year.

Egomaniac Justin Bieber forces his videos on entourage.....

Egomaniac Justin Bieber forces his videos on entourage
London: Pop star Justin Bieber has reportedly become an egomaniac as now he doesn`t have ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez to keep him grounded. He reportedly makes his entourage watch his videos over and over again.

The 19-year-old broke up with actress Gomez earlier this year, and without her guidance he hasn`t been able to keep himself grounded, according to a report in femalefirst.co.uk.

A source revealed how Bieber has been reliving his 2011 appearance as the host on "Saturday Night Live" by replaying the tape along with his own videos to his entourage on the tour bus.

"It`s so awkward. I mean Bieber did a good job on the show, but no one wants to watch it again and again," femalefirst.co.uk quoted a source as saying.

"He makes us watch the videos again and again, but no one says anything. Gomez used to tell him what was up and it must have helped keep him grounded, because since they broke up his ego is out of control," the source added.

The source said that the 19-year-old doesn`t act quite as cocky when he`s around people he respects, but his entourage don`t want to speak out.

"He never pulls that kind of stuff when Jayden Smith or someone else he respects is there, but when it`s just his people on the bus he does it," the source said.

"He does the same thing with his videos. He`ll have them running on a loop, and then when he sees a part he loves, he stops and rewinds it and makes everyone watch," the source adde

'Congress scared of Narendra Modi'......

New Delhi: Amidst speculation that Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi will be pitted against each other in the 2014 General Elections for the PM’s post, Bihar's Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Giriraj Singh on Saturday said that Congress is scared of the Gujarat Chief Minister.

Commenting on the ongoing tiff between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, the senior BJP leader alleged that there is match-fixing between the former and the latter.
Giriraj Singh's comment came amidst a controversy over the recent meeting between Modi and a US delegation that included four members of the House of Representatives - all Republicans.

It has been alleged that the meeting was ‘fixed’.

While a media report claimed that organisers of the US delegation had canvassed for participants in the trip at prices ranging from USD 3,000 to USD 16,000, the Gujarat Congress alleged that Modi bribed the delegation to praise him.

Gujarat Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia dubbed the US delegation visit as a marketing gimmick and said it was a matter of shame

KKR pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji gets engaged to model-girlfriend Priya Thalur.......

Chennai: Indian fast bowler Lakshmipathy Balaji and model-girlfriend Priya Thalur exchanged rings on Monday. The couple followed akin Cheteshwar Pujara and Yusuf Pathan who exchanged vows to seal their marriages recently.

Priya Thalur was a regular attendee at Balaji’s IPL matches and both maintained their ‘just friends’ status in front of the media to escape the limelight. The event comes as good fortune, with the IPL 6 season about to kick in. The Kolkata Knight Riders get ready to play their first match this IPL season on April 3.

Balaji will be looking forward to seeing Priya in the stands, much like Pujara when he had his lady luck - wife Pooja - on his side in the Tests.

In past we’ve seen seniors like Sachin Tendulkar and M S Dhoni getting their motivation from their partners, cheering from the stands.

As the best of wishes shower on the newly engaged couple, everyone will be eager to see him put up splendid performances on the pitch.

Experienced players being pushed out too soon: Shaun Tait.......

Experienced players being pushed out too soon: Shaun Tait
Jaipur: Former Australia pacer Shaun Tait feels that seasoned players like Shane Warne, Matthew Hayden, Jason Gillespie shouldn`t have hurried retired which would have enabled a smooth transition for the next generation.

"I feel the likes of Jason Gillespie, Shane Warne, Michael Kasprowicz and Mathew Hayden were the players from whom the younger lot could learn and I feel they should have hung for more time," Tait said during an interaction with the media.

"I am not sure but there have been some changes in Australian cricket and at the domestic level too. The youngsters, when inducted into the team learn from their seasoned teammates," he said.

When asked whether the IPL was losing its global character in wake of the decision of pulling out Sri Lankan players out of Chennai and the few England players being barred by their respective counties, Shaun Tait called it a "shame".

"It is not in the hands of players. They have to abide with what the authorities say. The IPL would not lose its global character but it is a shame that players have to face such situation. It is the decision taken by others. At the end of the day, IPL is an Indian tournament but a very good one," he said.

Questioned on where the Royals` campaign went haywire last year, he replied,"We were not up to the mark in the death overs in the previous season. I enjoy bowling at the death but your plans work out at times and some times, they don`t. I would again enjoy bowling at death."

Tait has often been labelled as someone who has pace but is very erratic. The bowler assured that he is working on that aspect of his game.

"I know I was erratic at times but have worked on this. My foot was popping out of the bowling crease but recently I had improved in the Big Bash and Bangladesh Premier league. It`s ok as of now. I plan to bowl a lot straighter and keep things simple."

Despite his international career being curtailed by injuries, Tair doesn`t want to compromise on pace.

"I have been plagued with injuries in my career but still don`t want to cut down on my pace. I have not played one dayers for quite some time to reduce workload and concentrate on T20 only. To avoid more injuries, I work out a lot. But still I want to bowl around 150 kmph as cutting down on pace would be too difficult," said the Aussie quick.

Asked about the previous season, Tait said,"The previous season for Rajasthan Royals was not that bad. We had fought hard till the end but had lost a couple of matches which we should have won. We hope for a top-4 finish this time. We have worked on a few grey areas like death bowling and have few more options in attack. The likes of James Faulkner would lend us more bowling strength. We have good relationship and we mix up well and help each other," said Tait.

Australia series helped me get back my rhythm: Ishant......

Australia series helped me get back my rhythm: Ishant
New Delhi: Indian pacer Ishant Sharma feels that he has got his ‘rhythm back’ in the recently-concluded home Test series against Australia, after spending the better part of last year on the sidelines due to ankle surgery.

"I think I am slowly getting back into my rhythm. I am pretty happy with my performance against Australia. Although, I couldn`t do much in the first couple of Tests, I did well in the last two matches. Overall, I am satisfied with my performance," said the lanky fast bowler, who finished with only seven wickets from the four-Test series.

He has received a lot of flak having got only 144 wickets from 51 Tests but the 24-year-old is reasonably happy about how his international career has panned out so far.

"I think I have done reasonably well in my career so far. I hope to continue to do well. In India, the wickets are not too conducive for pace bowling," Ishant stated after a session with young trainees at a cricket clinic `You vs Ishant` at the Vasant Kunj Sports Complex.

Ishant said he and his pace bowling partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar complemented each other in the team.

"I concentrated in getting the reverse swing with the old ball (against Australia). Bhuvneshwar swings the new ball and he has done well. For me, it was more about containment with the new ball and wait for the old ball," he said.

Ishant`s tips for young fast bowling aspirants is simple, try to bowl as fast as you can at the beginning and not worry unduly about the line and length.

"According to me, when you are young, you should think of raw pace only. Line and length can be learnt later on in a match situation. If you think of bowling line and length from a young age, you won`t have pace."

Ishant feels that talented pacers should be nurtured with a lot of care and qualified support staff (physios and trainers) should take good care of them.

"It is important to have physios and trainers. They play an important part in the career of fast bowlers," he said.

The Delhi lad didn`t play too many ODIs in the last three years but he’s hopeful of breaking into the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in June, and a limited overs away series in Zimbabwe.

"I am hoping that I can be in the squad for the Champions Trophy and then the Zimbabwe ODI tour. Then there is the Test series in South Africa which would be one, but that is some time away and I am not thinking about that," he said.

Ishant will be playing for Hyderabad Sunrisers in the upcoming sixth edition of IPL and is hopeful that the franchise will do well.

"We have a good mix of experienced players and youngsters. Most of the players have been in the team (Deccan Chargers) before it was taken over by another owner and named Hyderabad Sunrisers," he said.

Asked about the prospect of bowling again against former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who is captaining Mumbai Indians and with whom he had a fascinating contest in his debut season in 2007-08, Ishant said.

"In IPL, I am going to bowl just four overs and it`s difficult to say who would win a contest between a batsman and a bowler. It can go either way."

Jesse Ryder doesn't remember assault, says manager Klee
Christchurch: New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder is out of his induced coma and has begun talking as he begins his journey towards full recovery from his assault in Christchurch on Wednesday night.

Ryder’s manager Aaron Klee however said the left-hander could not recollect the assault that left him unconscious and in a critical condition.

The left handed batsman is also believed to be breathing without the assistance of a ventilator.

Ryder had suffered serious head and lung injuries after being brutally assaulted on Wednesday night.

Police have arrested two men in connection with the case and they will be produced in court on April 4.

Ryder was set to represent Delhi Daredevils in IPL season six. The Delhi franchise had paid USD 260000 for his services in the latest IPL players` auction.

Mandela once fell in love with Indian-origin lady: Book..........

Johannesburg: South Africa might have had an Indian-origin First Lady if Amina Cachalia had agreed to a proposal of marriage from the country's first democratically elected President Nelson Mandela.

Mandela proposed to Amina, the widow of veteran ANC activist Yusuf Cachalia, after his 27 years of imprisonment and his marriage to Winnie Mandela ended.

But, she dismissed his declarations of love, she wrote in her biography 'When Hope and History Rhyme'. Amina, who died last month aged 83, revealed an intimate and affectionate side to the relationship between her and lifelong family friend Mandela in the book released after her death.

Her children, Ghaleb and Coco Cachalia both confirmed that their mother had confided in them about Mandela's marriage offer.

Mandela, 94, is currently in a Pretoria hospital being treated for a lung infection.

He was elected the first black President of the rainbow nation in 1994.

Amina and Yusuf Cachalia spent many years in India, where he headed the desk of the African National Congress(ANC) in exile.

In her book, Cachalia gives vivid descriptions of private visits to her apartment by Mandela and her visits to his office and residence.

"On one of these visits I must have been looking rather flustered as I bustled about doing my chores," Amina wrote.

"(Mandela) sat me down on the two-seater couch in the living room and kissed me passionately. Running his fingers through my hair he said: "Do you know that you are an exceptionally beautiful, vivacious and enticing young lady?" I hollered at him. He looked very worried and wanted to know what was so wrong with what he had said. I replied gently: I'm not a young lady; I am a middle-aged woman."

"He looked relieved and said: "Okay let’s begin again." Then he repeated the string of adjectives, substituting 'old' for 'young' lady. I screamed again and said that I was not an old lady either," she revealed.

Amina recalled one evening when Mandela visited her apartment in Johannesburg. She prepared crayfish for him, which he did not eat, as he was upset on being rebuffed.

"That night Nelson declared his love for me in no uncertain terms. I resisted, reminding him of his marriage (to former Mozambican First Lady Graca Machel), and the fact that while I may have been moved to consider his overtures positively, his marriage to Graca prevented me from doing so," Amina wrote.

"I was free, he was not. He was clearly upset. I had hurt his feelings and resisted his advances. I begged with him to stay for crayfish but he brushed my pleas aside and walked out of the door."

On a visit to visit to Mandela's Houghton home the next day, Amina revealed how Mandela sat opposite to her and wrote notes to her which said "beautiful, endearing things to me."

"The day before had evidently been forgotten and we were to make a fresh beginning. But I told him that we were playing with fire and I prepared to tear up the notes. He stopped me, assuring me that he would shred them once he had finished writing," Amina recalls.

Nelson was not a great romantic figure. Perhaps the years in prison had dampened that side of him. He would express his love or feelings in a rather matter-of-fact fashion. Perhaps the closest he got to express his feelings was when he wrote these notes to me in the garden of his Houghton home. But I could not return any of his rigid gestures of love. I was not in love with Nelson. I loved him dearly and yet I could not bring myself to want him as I did Yusuf, even in our old age," Amina concluded.

Amina hailed from a family of activists. Her father, Ebrahim Asvat was a companion of Gandhi during his stay in South Africa and was chairman of the Transvaal British Indian Association, which later became the Transvaal Indian Congress.

She met her husband Yusuf when he was interviewing candidates for bursaries offered by India. Although she failed to get a passport to study in India, she married Yusuf and also became a strong leader in women's movements in South Africa, despite repeated banning orders which confined her to her home. Yusuf Cachalia died in 1995 in New Delhi.

'First few hours of N Korea-US conflict would be ugly'.....

Washington: Prominent North Korean analysts, citing what they see as increasingly troubling signs coming from the dictatorial regime, have voiced concerns that its new young leader, Kim Jong-un, could do something ill-advised and even start a war with the US.

On Friday North Korea renewed what the U.S. has condemned as its 'bellicose rhetoric', saying Kim had ordered the nation's missile forces to prepare to strike the United States and South Korea.

According to the Christian Science Monitor, in response to the prospect of North Korea following through on this and other marginally less dire threats, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said that the US military "will unequivocally defend, and [is] unequivocally committed to the alliance with, South Korea." Some former US Special Operations Forces and longtime Korea defense analysts have their own thoughts on what an 'unequivocal' US military response could look like.

That includes how US troops would be deployed in the event of a lethal first strike on US and allied military forces by North Korea - precisely the sort of move Kim has been threatening to make.

Patrick Cronin, senior director of the Asia-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security, said that should Kim choose to do "something even more outlandish," the US military and South Korean response would be more dire.

Retired Brig. General Russell Howard, former commander of the 1st Special Forces Group, which has an Asia focus, said that should Kim decide to begin firing them, he says, "in the first few hours of the conflict, it would be pretty ugly."

At the same time, North Korea could begin "swarming" its sizable contingent of 600,000 Special Operations commandos, Howard added, now the director of the Terrorism, Research, and Education Program at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, the report added.

Pakistan bans Musharraf from leaving country.....

Islamabad: Pakistan Saturday stopped former president Pervez Musharraf from leaving the country a day after a court ordered it.

The interior ministry issued directives to the immigration authorities to put Musharraf's name on the Exit Control List (ECL), reported Xinhua, citing Radio Pakistan.

It also sent a notification to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which deals with the immigration affairs at the airports.

Musharraf returned to Pakistan after over a four year self-exile and is now facing several cases including his government's failure to provide security to former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a suicide attack in 2007.

A court in Karachi extended his protective bail on plea by his defence lawyers that the former military ruler is contesting elections. However, he was restrained from leaving the country without the court's permission.

Musharraf is now leading his own political party - the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), and will contest the May 11 general elections.

The APML Friday submitted his nomination forms for a national assembly seat in the northern Chitral district.

Musharraf also plans to stand on more than one seat including one in Karachi.

He will have to face strong opposition from his political rivals during scrutiny of nomination papers as he is facing charges in several high profile cases in which he has got temporary bail.

Taliban have also publicly threatened Musharraf as he had carried out military operations against them in the tribal regions and the northwestern Swat valley.

Musharraf's policies, particularly joining the US-led coalition and giving Pakistani military bases to the American forces for attacks against the Afghan Taliban, had been highly controversial.

Indians vote like cattle: Markandey Katju......

New Delhi: India is not a full-fledged democracy as 90 percent of its people vote like sheep and cattle, Press Council of India chairman Justice Markandey Katju said here on Saturday.

Speaking to a TV channel, Katju said: "Ninety percent Indians vote in droves like sheep and cattle. They are like a herd of cattle voting along caste and religious lines."

"Because Indians vote like livestock, there are so many criminals in Parliament," he added.

The former Supreme Court judge said that he would not vote as India was being run by leaders elected on the basis of their caste, which is not the true form of democracy. "I won't vote because my vote is meaningless. Votes are cast in the name of Jats, Muslims, Yadavs or Harijans. Democracy is not meant to be run like this. Why should I waste my time in joining the cattle queue?" he said.

Boasting of his secular credentials, Katju said that he was against communal forces and "by being secular, if I am branded a Congressman, you are entitled to your view".

Katju has been in news for seeking a pardon for actor Sanjay Dutt and Zaibunnisa Kazi, charged with illegal possession of arms in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case by the Supreme Court.

Katju has argued that Dutt stacked the weapons for self defence and to protect his family from the threats that they were getting in the aftermath of the Babri demolition.

"Sanjay Dutt is a shattered man. He has suffered enough but he has reformed," he said.

Katju said that he was prepared to seek pardons for other stars, Saif Ali Khan and Salman Khan, who have been charged for killing endangered blackbucks in Jodhpur.

"I will study their cases and if I am satisfied that I should speak out, I will surely plead their case," he said.

Accused of being hungry for publicity, the former judge said that "seeking publicity is a form of vulgarity". He added that he never chases controversy but what can he do if controversy chases him.

He also mocked Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal and his former associate Anna Hazare, saying that corruption was a "malaise which cannot be eradicated in the next 20 years".

"This campaign is like the tale told by an idiot signifying nothing. There's no morality code in the country, so corruption cannot be wiped out," Katju said.
